Poker history
Born in Rapid City, S.D., and raised in Montana, Layne Flack is a player who, to many people, came from out of nowhere to become one of the most highly regarded poker players in the world. He has made his mark on the tournament circuit as well as in some of the highest cash games.
Flack is best known for winning two consecutive events at the 2002 World Series of Poker (WSOP) followed by two consecutive events at the 2003 WSOP. This feat earned him the nickname "Back 2 Back Flack." To date, he has an impressive 6 World Series of Poker bracelets and one World Poker Tour title. Layne shows no sign of slowing down including recently surpassing $4,000,000 in poker tournament winnings including a 2008 WSOP win in the $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha. In slightly under 10 years of play Layne's resume includes 70 cashes and 14 major titles.
Flack began his poker career by owning and operating various poker rooms throughout the state of Montana. In fact, Layne credits this era and his involvement with the poker rooms as one of the main contributors to his early understanding of the game. He quickly mastered the game and decided to take his knowledge to the tables by becoming a professional player. He showed his aptitude for the many forms of poker almost immediately upon hitting the scene. His friend and confidante Phil Hellmuth perhaps expressed it best when he said, "Layne is a No-Limit Hold'em genius, his reads are dead on and it makes him fearless. It's hard to beat a guy with great reads and no fear."
Flack, has successfully battled his share of demons so many poker players face at one time or another. He is now choosing to concentrate on his family and friends and various charity work. His daughter Halie remains the love of his life. Once again, Flack is seeking to prove his metal in a game that is constantly changing. Relearning, reinventing, and transforming; perhaps the best one to describe the mantra Flack is following. Continuing to stay the course and bring his poker game to the highest level possible while remaining one of the most respected and feared professional poker players of all time.
