Denes
Kalo is a professional poker player from Hungary where he is ranked #1
with his $2.5M winnings. His most notable finishes are his second
places in the EPT Baden and EPT Monte Carlo and European Poker Masters
- all in the same season (2008).
He has established a strong
presence in the European poker arena. That he has been consistent in
his performance is well evident from his final-table finishes in most
of the tournaments that he has played in.
His first major
tournament was the Austrian Classics/European Poker Masters (EPM) Event
held at the Concord Card Casino. Denes Kalo competed in the No-Limit
Hold’em event against 106 other entrants and finished as the runner-up
on October 3, 2006. This impressive performance at the final table
earned him 50,440 EURO from a prize pool of 321,000 EURO.
Exactly
two months after he achieved this feat, Denes Kalo came third in the
600 EURO No-Limit Hold’em Masters event at the Budapest Poker Open
tournament. This tournament, held at the Casino Las Vegas at Sofitel,
saw him competing against 26 participants and taking away 5,698 EURO in
cash.
Denes Kalo had his first six-digit cash-in at the Baden
Poker Festival 2007/European Poker Tour (EPT) Event - Season 4, which
was held at the Casinos Austria Baden. In the 8,000 EURO No-Limit
Hold’em event, which had an enormous prize pool of 2,256,000 EURO and
281 entries, Denes Kalo played well enough to finish second and walked
away with a whopping 375,000 EURO on October 10, 2007.
However,
the biggest success of his career, till date, came on April 17, the
following year, in the EPT Monte Carlo Grand Final held at the Monte
Carlo Bay Hotel & Resort. In the EPT No-Limit Hold’em event, the
stage was set for 842 entries who contributed to a prize pool of
8,420,000 EURO, and Denes Kalo played. He went on to finish second in
the race for the title and bagged a mind-blowing 1,179,000 EURO for his
fine performance at the table.
