Biography JJ Hazan has been playing poker for more than 20 years, first being introduced to the game at the age of 18. Back then Texas Hold’em had not reached today's popularity, so in the home games he frequently played with friends playing 5 Card Draw and 7 Card Stud which were the popular choices at the time. JJ credits these early mixed game experiments as being the catalyst for his results in today’s popular forms of poker. He then practiced his skills in and around London at venues such as the legendary Dungeon and Clerkenwell Clubs, but only recently feels he has started to 'really' understand the game.
In less than three years he has cashed in 13 major tournaments worldwide and secured almost
$550,000 in winnings and his first big result came when he won a
Satellite at the old Gutshot club to the Master Classics Of Poker
€5,000 main event in Amsterdam. Focusing on winning the event from the
start, JJ moved his way through the field busting pro’s and impressing
them so much they started buying parts of his action. He eventually
made it to the final table and after wooing the crowds with his dance
moves he forgot they were there and got down to business. He finally
took second place earning $452,000 for his efforts.
With that generous boost to his bankroll JJ started travelling the world playing in some of the most prestigious tournaments around. In July 2007 he headed to Vegas for the WSOP and cashed in the $1,000 SHOE event. Then in October he returned to London to play in the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour grand final and took first place earning almost $50,000. He rounded off the year back in Amsterdam with another cash at the MCOP. In January 2008 he headed around the globe to play in the Aussie Millions and final tabled the AUS $2,000 Pot Limit Hold'em/Omaha/Omaha Hi/Lo event for over $12,000. Returning to London he won an event at the Empire Poker Festival for over $3,000 and then in April came close to another GUKPT final table earning over $6,000. In June he headed back out to Vegas and warmed up for the WSOP by cashing in a Bellagio Weekly tournament. In the WSOP he had a top 20 finish in the $3,000 HORSE event for over $10,000.
Since then, he has been back playing the London circuit and has had 4 major cashes. This includes a victory in the £250 PLO8 event at the London Championships for nearly $6,500 and a second place at a GUKPT event for over $2,500. Outside of poker, JJ has had a successful business career starting as a Theatre Director before transferring these skills to the corporate world, managing and developing a string of successful business. He then became the Business Development Manager/Designer for Interact where he organised dozens of training programs to over 200 participants at a time for organisations such as the Foreign Office and BBC. He also MC’d conferences for well over 1,000 people and directed corporate films and designed internal communication programs.
JJ's passion it to utilize his business and theatre experience with his love and knowledge of poker to fill the void of readily available UK gambling media personalities.
