Poker History Maria
is the Latin American female with the most cashes in WSOP history! Her
latest big game was in the PokerStars PCA 2009. The 30-year-old
Brazilian, better known to the online crowd as “Maridu,” has spent the
last two years doing everything she could to promote her native
country’s poker community, and is now reaping the benefits.
A
former filmmaker, Maridu made her mark in the poker community when she
worked on a documentary about poker in Brazil. During filming, she
started a blog reporting on the goings-on. It turned into a promotional
force for poker in Brazil and vaulted her into a career as a player.
Maridu
found success online - she now makes her living playing poker - and
that success translated to strong finishes in various events, with
three cashes in this year’s World Series of Poker. Those successes in
turn led to her securing every pro’s dream: a sponsorship with a major
site, in this case PokerStars.
Maridu’s first tournament as a
PokerStars representative was the Latin American Poker Tour in San
Jose, Costa Rica. Starting with high hopes, she couldn’t have known
just how good things would get how quickly.
