Poker History Originally
from Red Hook, New York, up-and-coming pro Matt Vengrin was first
introduced to poker by a friend at college. He started off by playing
Sit & Gos at his local casino, but turned his attention to online
poker and quickly became a force to be reckoned with in online
Multi-Table Tournament play.
Much of Matt’s success in online play has come during FTOPS
events. His first big payday came when he made the final table of FTOPS
I Event #4, finishing in 5th place for more than $9K, and his biggest
online score to date came when he won FTOPS V Event #9 for over $200K.
Matt’s other big online scores include a 2nd place finish in one of
Full Tilt Poker’s $750,000 Guarantee tournaments for more than $80K,
plus he’s won two $18K Aussie Millions prize packages and one $12K
Winner’s Choice prize package.
Like many other young online pros, Matt has devoted time to the live
poker world as well. He’s cashed in numerous live tournaments,
including WSOP, WPT and Aussie Millions events. Most of his live
success has been at the World Series of Poker, where he’s made two
final tables, including a 3rd place finish at the 2008 $3K No-Limit
Hold ‘em event for over $165K. All told, Matt has more than $400K in
career tournament earnings at live events. And over $1.5 millions in
total.
Though mostly known as a tournament expert, Matt plays in Sit &
Gos and ring games as well. His favorite game is No-Limit Hold ‘em, but
he also enjoys all the HORSE games, particularly Omaha Hi/Lo. Look for
