Alex was born on 17th January 1964 in San Jose, Costa Rica and is the younger brother of professional poker players Humberto and Eric Brenes. The three of them together are known as "Godfather of Costa Rican players.'' Alex is born in Costa Rica and is living in San Jose, Costa Rica.
Poker History Alex is a regular at the WSOP where he has cashed 22 times, making three final tables and finished as runner-up in two of them, the first was in the $3,500 No Limit Hold'em event and the other was in the $3,000 Texas Fixed-Limit Hold'em. Alex has also cashed in the money twice at the WSOP Main Event finishing 24th in 2001 and 197th in 2004.He has also won a WPT invitational and made three final tables in the inaugural season of the Latin America Poker Tour.
in May 2008 Brenes was a participant at the inaugural LAPT in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil and made the Final Table finishing fourth, earning $62,800. Following on from this, later that year he finished runner-up at the LAPT Punta del Este $2,700 No Limit Hold'em Main Event earning $127,625.
