After being crowned the Brazilian Online Champion for the season 2007/2008, Nelson was rewarded with a professional status. Online poker is where Nelson really excelled, winning over $500,000 in tournaments at PartyPoker, BestPoker and other poker sites. However he has also gained a reputation on the live circuit, after winning several stages in the Rio de Janeiro 100k and 50k awards and finishing just out of the money in his first ever WSOP Main Event.
After finishing 535th in the 2009 WSOP Main Event (which became the second highest result for a Brazilian citizen), Nelson pushed himself all the way up to seventh in the Brazilian Online League.
